Our Philosophy
Mission Statement | Why
Diana's Drum?
At Diana's
Drum, our goal is to share the inspirational and
transformative powers of the drum.
Drums have been used by every culture around the world, perhaps
since time began. The beat of a drum is used in celebration, in
healing, and in creating and enhancing the power of sacred spaces.
Before we're born, it is the steady lub-dub, lub-dub, of our mother's
heartbeat that lulls us to sleep and accompanies our every waking
hour. No wonder we respond so deeply to the primal sound of the
drum!
Drumming is truly the universal language, beyond words. It is so
powerful that even those who have lost the ability to speak (through
Stroke, Head Injury, Dementia, etc.) or otherwise communicate(as
in extreme Autism, etc.) can use it to express their feelings in
a direct, powerful way. It opens doors that were thought to be permanently
shut and lets us re-connect with others as part of a community.
As natural as the sunrise and sunset, as the pulse in our veins;
as a breath in, followed by a breath out - everywhere around and
within us - we find the rhythm and sound of nature's heartbeat.
Whether it's through the music created in a communal
drum circle, or the gentle beat of a frame drum in a therapeutic
drum session, the drum has the ability to awaken the heart and
touch the soul.
It is the mission of Diana's
Drum to share the healing and expressive potential
of nature's heartbeat through the beat of the drum. Through rhythm
and percussion, our aim is to connect and reconnect with others
in the rhythm of life. Our tools are the deep rhythms of Africa,
the vibrant, high-energy beats of the Middle East, the timeless
tempos of our own hearts. We use the HealthRHYTHMS®
therapeutic protocol to deepen the healing effects of rhythm and
make drumming accessible to all, regardless of physical, mental
or emotional challenges. Diana's
Drum works with individuals of all ages and from
all walks of life.
Mythologically,
Diana is the Roman Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt. She lived deep
in the woods, in harmony with all of nature. She was the Goddess
of wild and domestic animals. Her hounds were her steadfast and
loyal companions. Wild deer revered her and gave themselves willingly
as she hunted in respect and reverence of nature.
As Goddess of the Hunt, Diana stretches her bow and takes aim.
At Diana's
Drum, our goal is targeted drumming events and instruction
that hit the mark every time. Whether it's a corporate
team-building event; a HealthRHYTHMS®
therapeutic drum session; a women's
retreat to revitalize body and soul; or a high-energy, community-building
drum circle infused with worldbeat rhythms - we aim to satisfy
the call of nature's heartbeat.
Diana, as Goddess of the Moon, calls to mind the waxing and waning
of everyday events, the ebb and flow of the tides. Diana was said
to have been the guardian of springs and streams, as well as wild
animals. Women especially revered her, and some considered her to
be the Goddess of fertility, assisting women in labour and childbirth,
yet another rhythmic event.
In calling forth the imagery of the Moon, the tides, the reverence
of nature and the ability to live in harmony with all Creation,
we can allow the steady beat of Diana's
Drum to support us as we release worries and call
forth joy...and let ourselves flow effortlessly along with nature's
heartbeat.
